J&K: Security Forces Foil Infiltration Bid, Eliminate 3 LeT Terrorists In Kupwara

An encounter broke out between the ultras and security forces in Kupwara on Thursday morning in which three terrorists were neutralised.

New Delhi: Foiling an infiltration bid in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir the security forces gunned down three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists on Thursday. "Based on a specific input developed by police regarding an infiltration attempt by terrorists in Jumagund village in Kupwara, the ultras were intercepted by the Army and police," a police spokesperson said to PTI

He said an encounter broke out between the ultras and security forces in which three terrorists were neutralised.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the slain terrorists were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit LeT.

He added, "rom the incriminating materials recovered, the three killed terrorists have been identified as Pakistani, affiliated with terror outfit LeT. So far, 26 foreign terrorists (14 JeM & 12 LeT) have been neutralised this year."

Meanwhile, three Pakistani terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were on Wednesday killed in a "chance" encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

A policeman also lost his life in the encounter that took place at Najibhat crossing in Kreeri area in the north Kashmir district.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said the encounter took place at one of the checkpoints set up by the security forces across the valley.

 A police spokesperson identified the slain terrorists as Ali Bhai, Hanief Bhai and Shah Wali -- all residents of Pakistan.

Incriminating materials and a huge cache of arms and ammunition including three AK-47 rifles, 15 AK-47 magazines, 344 AK rounds, five Chinese grenades and three IEDs were recovered from the encounter site. All the recovered material has been included in the case records for further investigation.
