Jammu & Kashmir: Army Foils Infiltration Bid Along LoC, Three Militants Killed

Three bodies were found and three AK rifles, one pistol, six grenades, apart from a large quantity of ammunition and stores related to IEDs were recovered after the search.

New Delhi: An infiltration bid was foiled in the forward areas of Keran district along the Line of Control (LoC) of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Three militants were killed and a large quantity of war like stores were recovered, Army officials said. According to a report by news agency IANS, the recovery of war like stores, including the ones for (IEDs) Improvised Explosive Devices, hints at an intention to disrupt peace and prosperity of the locals and the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, the Army said.

The Army, as quoted by IANS said, "The operation was launched based on Joint Intelligence from several agencies, including SSP Kupwara. Several search parties were formed, who conducted vigorous searches and established multiple ambushes.”

“The contact with terrorists was established at 4.45 a.m. on 26 May in the forward areas close to the LoC, leading to heavy exchange of fire. One civil porter also lost his life in the firefight. The thorough search was conducted in the morning and concluded at about 2 pm," the Army added.

According to officials, three bodies were found and three AK rifles, one pistol, six grenades, apart from a large quantity of ammunition and stores related to (IEDs) Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered after the search.

The Army further said that exporting terrorism in the Valley has been a state policy of Pakistan over the last three decades and an increased desperation of terrorist handlers can be seen as a result of effect-based operations by the Indian Army. The prevailing peace and tranquility can also be seen from the large tourist influx here, it said.

"Pakistan's nefarious designs to revive the dying agenda and keep the pot boiling in J&K under the garb of Ceasefire Understanding by Pakistan Army is the new deceit," the Army added.
