Jammu and Kashmir: One LeT commander killed in brief encounter in Pulwama
The killed militant was recognised as LeT district commander Irfan Ahmad Sheikh. He was a resident of Chakoora Pulwama and was active as a militant since last two years.
New Delhi: A Lashkar-e-Taiba commander was decimated by security forces on Wednesday evening after a brief gunfight.
The killed militant was recognised as LeT district commander Irfan Ahmad Sheikh. He was a resident of Chakoora Pulwama and was active as a militant since last two years.
The encounter started between militants and security forces at Chakoora Pulwama.
A joint team of army, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Chakoora area of Litter and soon after forces fired several gunshots amid the cordon, leading to an encounter.
In the brief exchange of firing, one militant was killed. The body of the killed militant was recovered from the encounter site along with a weapon. Sources said that there was one more militant, who has escaped from the site.
Area is still under cordon to trace out the remaining hiding militants. Cordon-and-search operation was launched in the village following specific information about the presence of some militants.
