Jahangirpuri Violence: Amit Shah Speaks To Top Cop In Delhi, Asks To Take Necessary Action

The Home Ministry has given necessary directions to the Delhi Police and is also keeping a close watch on the situation

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to two top Delhi Police officers on the incident of violence in the city's Jahangirpuri area on Saturday and directed them to take necessary action, official sources said.

According to sources close to news agency PTI, the home minister spoke to the Commissioner of Police and Special Commissioner (law and order) and asked them to take all necessary action following the Jahangirpuri violence incident.

The police force also informed the top functionaries of the Union Home Ministry about the violence incident which took place during a procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti in the national capital.

The Home Ministry has given necessary directions to the Delhi Police and is also keeping a close watch on the situation, the sources further said.

The Delhi Police has deployed adequate security personnel, including senior officers to control the situation, the sources said. They also said that additional forces have been stationed in other sensitive areas, besides those adjoining Jahangirpuri.

Notably, violence erupted during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area in Delhi on Saturday, police said.

According to officials, several vehicles have been vandalised by the miscreants and police personnel were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, Lt Governor has condemned the incidents of violence and stone-pelting in the national capital as unfortunate and said that none behind these activities will be spared.He also took stock of the situation along with CP, Delhi and has appealed to the people to maintain peace.

Dependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, as quoted by news agency ANI, said, "The situation is under control. We are trying to create a peaceful environment by holding talks with peace committees and appeal to everyone to maintain peace."
