Jammu and Kashmir: Two migrants from Uttar Pradesh were injured in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Friday evening. The UP natives, Sufiyan and Usman, sustained injuries after being shot at in the Mazhama area of Magam in Budgam.

They were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, where they are stated to be in stable condition. The non-locals belonged to Saharanpur and were engaged as workers in the Jal Jeevan Project, which aims at providing clean tap water to rural households in the region.

While one of them was hit in his arm, the other one was shot in his leg. They were shifted to the SDH Magam hospital. After the attack, the area was cordoned off by the security forces and a man hunt was launched to nab the militants who attacked the non-locals.

CM Omar, NC Chief Farooq Abdullah Condemn Attack

The incident comes amid the ongoing security concerns for non-local workers in Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah were among the leaders who condemned the attack.

In a post from its official X handle, the National Conference said: "JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed deep sorrow over the terrorist attack on civilians in Mazhama, Budgam, strongly condemning this act of violence. They extend their heartfelt sympathies and prayers to the victims and their families, standing in solidarity with those affected by this tragic incident."

Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra also condemned the terrorist attack, calling it most unfortunate. He also prayed for a speedy recovery of the injured, urging the government to take action to curb such inhuman acts.

Last month, a doctor and six migrant workers were killed after terrorists opened fire at a construction site in Ganderbal district's Sonmarg area.

The doctors and workers were part of a construction team working on the Z-Morh tunnel, which is being built to connect Gaganeer to Sonmarg in Central Kashmir.  Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the attack on non-local labourers "dastardly and cowardly". Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also condemned the terror attack on "innocent labourers" who were engaged in the "vital infrastructure project".

On October 24, a migrant labourer from UP's Bijnaur was shot at in in Batagund of Tral area in Pulwama district. He was rushed to a hospital after being shot at in the arm by terrorists. However, no cartridge was recovered in or around the incident site.

Another migrant worker from Bihar was killed in a terrorist attack on October 18. His bullet-ridden body was discovered by locals in south Kashmir's Shopian district in Zainapora.
