He said that the place of commissioning holds historical significance as it is the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Sambhaji, and Kanhoji.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that INS Mormugao is one of the most powerful warships made in India and it will make a remarkable growth in Indian Maritime capabilities. Singh said that INS Mormugao is one of the world’s most technologically advanced missile carriers.

The minister was addressing the dignitaries during the commissioning of INS Mormugao into the Indian Navy in Mumbai. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, and other dignitaries were also present in the ceremony.

He said, “The place where we all have gathered today for the commissioning of INS 'Mormugao' is a historical region that has witnessed the bravery of heroes like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Sambhaji, and Kanhoji. The commissioning of this warship at this place has its own special importance.”

Talking about India’s capability in building the warship, Singh said that it is an example of our indigenous defence production capability and in the future, India will do shipbuilding for the world.

The systems in INS Mormugao will be able to satisfy not just present but also future needs, he added.

The minister also remembered former Goa CM and Defence Minister Manohar Parikar. He said, “On this occasion, I also pay my tributes to former Defence Minister, Late Shri Manohar Parrikar, who was the son of the soil of Goa, and from whose hands INS Mormugao was launched in September 2016.”

Talking about INS Mormugao’s specialties, he said that it is one of the world's most advanced missile carriers with state-of-the-art sensor package and weapons with medium-range surface-to-air missiles, BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles, and anti-submarine indigenous torpedo tube launchers.”

Rajnath Singh also put emphasis on India’s increasing economic strength and said, “Recently, our country's economy has featured among the top five economies of the world. And according to a big agency, in the next 5 years i.e. by 2027, India will be among the top 3 economies of the world.”
