'Don’t We Still Have Congress Govt in Punjab?’ Sunil Jakhar Targets Channi Over Indira Gandhi’s Death Anniversary

Jakhar in another tweet made an indirect reference to Jagdish Tytler’s appointment as a permanent invitee to the Delhi Congress’ new executive committee.

New Delhi: Taking a jibe at the Punjab government for allegedly failing to issue newspaper advertisements to Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary, Congress leader Sunil Jakhar on Sunday tagged an advertisement issued last year under former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh-led government to commemorate the former prime minister.

“I can understand BJP trying to erase 'Iron Lady of India' from history but don’t we still have a Congress Government in Punjab. PS. I know Capt Saab won’t mind my using this PB Govt’s ad from last year, as none appeared today,” he tweeted.

Jakhar in another tweet made an indirect reference to Jagdish Tytler’s appointment as a permanent invitee to the Delhi Congress’ new executive committee.

The Congress leader wondered if not issuing an advertisement to remember the former prime minister had anything to do with it.

“Or is it a case of ‘once burned twice shy’ - in light of certain appointment two days ago?” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Congress paid tributes to the former prime minister on her death anniversary.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who paid floral tributes to the former prime minister at her memorial ‘Shakti Sthal’ in the national capital, hailed her as a great example of women power.

“My grandmother served the country fearlessly till the last moment -- her life is a source of inspiration for us. A great example of women power, humble tributes to Mrs. Indira Gandhi on her martyrdom day,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also remembered the former prime minister on her death anniversary.

“Your life is a message of courage, fearlessness and patriotism. Your life is a message to keep fighting for justice by walking on the path of ideals,” she tweeted sharing her picture as a kid with Indira Gandhi.

On 31 October 1984, two of Gandhi’s Sikh bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, shot her with their service weapons in the garden of the prime minister's residence allegedly in revenge for Operation Blue Star.
