Indian Navy Successfully Test Fires BrahMos Missile In Bay Of Bengal

The Indian Navy said that the missile achieved all mission objectives.

New Delhi: The Indian Navy said it has successfully test-fired a BrahMos missile from one of its warships in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. The missile achieved all mission objectives, it said.

In a post on platform X, the Navy shared a picture of the test firing along with the caption, "An #IndianNavy destroyer of @IN_EasternFleet carried out successful firing of #BrahMos missile in the #BayofBengal. The missile achieved all mission objectives."

Last month, the Indian military successfully carried out multiple trials of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Defence officials had said that the extended-range weapons had hit their targets successfully with precision and achieved all objectives.

In a post, BrahMos Aerospace had shared a congratulatory message for the Indian Air Force after successfully testing the surface-to-surface version of the missile.

“Congratulations to Indian Air Force for successfully carrying out precision-strike launch of BrahMos surface-to-surface variant which has hit the ‘Bull’s Eye’ meeting all mission parameters. BrahMos Aerospace reiterates its commitment to strengthen the firepower of Indian Armed Forces and continue to be the flagbearer of Atmanirbhar Bharat," BrahMos Aerospace wrote.

BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an India-Russian joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.

Earlier in May, the Indian Navy successfully test-fired a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the INS Mormugao, the latest guided missile destroyer.

"INS Mormugao, the latest guided-missile destroyer, successfully hit 'bulls eye' during her maiden BrahMos supersonic cruise missile firing," a Navy official had said.

BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.

India is also exporting the BrahMos missiles. In January last year, India sealed a USD 375 million deal with the Philippines to supply three batteries of the missile.
