"India Did Not Make The Mistake That US Committed "- MMA Fighter Sumit Kumar On COVID-19 Situation In California
"India has taken a very good step by imposing the 21 days lockdown . We can sense that sitting here in America. Here there's no lockdown, shops are open, people are going everywhere , you can see huge queues at the Walmart stores", said Mixed Martial Arts fighter Sumit Kumar.
New Delhi: Amid the entire world coming to a standstill and battling hard to fight the coronavirus global pandemic on a war footing, the United States of America has been one of the worst hit nations by the deadly COVID-19 virus with over 3 lakh of its population getting infected by the novel virus.
Speaking exclusively to ABP Sports correspondent Kuntal Chakraborty, US-based Indian Mixed Martial Arts fighter Sumit Kumar provided first hand account of the current situation prevailing in California, United States.
Sumit Kumar was quite positive in his outlook over how India has handled the pandemic so far by stating that the nation is moving in the right direction so far and haven't made the mistake the United States of America committed.
"India has taken a very good step by imposing the 21 days lockdown. We can sense that sitting here in America. Here there's no lockdown, shops are open, people are going everywhere, you can see huge queues at the Walmart stores", said Sumit Kumar.
Sumit now lives in California and training hard to see his dream come true, which is representing the country at the Ultimate Fighting Championship ( UFC ).
Sumit Kumar who originally is from the town of Hathras in UP had been training in the US from the last three years and training under former Olympic gold medallist and World Champion wrestler Jordan Burroughs and Kevin Jackson while learning the trick of Mixed Martial Arts from former champion Urijah Faber .
Sumit had represented Services (Combined Team of Indian Armed Forces) at the national level wrestling championships in India and was with Army Boys Sports unit in Nasik before moving to the US to pursue his career in Mixed Martial Arts. The yonng lad from Hathras has finished as the best fighter in one of the rounds at the recently concluded "The Fighting Series " in California.
Sumit had also won the crown at the 11th World Martial Arts Games a couple of years back in Florida. Now, he is aiming to get an entry at the Ultimate Fighting Championship and represent the country. However, at the moment the training has been stopped because of corona virus pandemic.
" A lot of sweat comes out during the training sessions and as a result can spread infections. This is why all the training has been stopped at the moment ". Sumit is hoping for an improvement of the situation so that he can start training again.
