India-Pakistan DGMO-Level Talks End, Both Sides Agree To Reduce Troops In Border Areas

The talks were held between Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, DGMO of the Indian Army and Major General Kashif Abdullah, the DGMO of the Pakistan Army over hotline.

The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held a meeting on Monday evening, two days after the countries announced a ceasefire after Operation Pahalgam, official sources said.

The talks were held between Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, DGMO of the Indian Army and Major General Kashif Abdullah, the DGMO of the Pakistan Army over hotline.

The Indian Army said that both sides agreed that not a single shot will be fired and both sides must take immediate measures to reduce troops from border areas.

"Talks between DGMOs (of India and Pakistan) were held at 5:00 PM, 12 May 2025. Issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other were discussed. It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas," Indian Army said.

Sources said that the Pakistan DGMO conveyed that the Pakistani military would not violate the ceasefire agreement.

They also said that Pakistan's body language during the talks remained defensive. Islamabad is unlikely to escalate the conflict further or violate the ceasefire, sources said.

India and Pakistan on Saturday last announced reaching an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea, with immediate effect.

The latest talks between the DGMO is second-such talks between the top military officials of the two nations amid tensions over the Pahalgam terror attack. Earlier on May 10, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the Pakistan's DGMO had contacted his Indian counterpart and the two agreed to halt all military actions, on land, at sea, and in the air, from 5 pm on May 10.
