'Immediate De-escalation Is Need Of The Hour': India On Escalating Israel-Gaza Violence

At least 53 Palestinians and six Israelis have reportedly been killed in spiraling violence so far as Gaza-based militants fired hundreds of rockets on Israel.

New Delhi: Amid increasing tensions between Israel and the Palestinian militants, India has condemned all acts of violence and underlined that immediate de-escalation is the need of the hour.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador T S Tirumurti, on Wednesday tweeted that he stated during the Security Council meeting on events in East Jerusalem that India condemns all acts of violence, especially rocket attacks from Gaza.

Ambassador Tirumurti during the meeting also mourned the tragic demise of an Indian national in Israel and emphasized that immediate de-escalation is need of the hour and parties should refrain from changing status-quo.

The Ambassador’s remarks came as 30-year-old Indian national in Israel, Soumya Santosh, was allegedly killed in a rocket attack by the Palestinian militants from Gaza. Hailing from Keerithodu in Kerala’s Idukki district, she had been working as a housemaid in Israel.

At least 53 Palestinians and six Israelis have reportedly been killed in spiraling violence so far as Gaza-based militants fired hundreds of rockets on Israel since Monday evening.
