New Delhi: Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida is set to make his two-day visit to India on March 19 and 20 to take part in the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on Thursday said that the India-Japan summit will be held on March 19. This is going to be the first meeting of the two leaders, Bagchi said.

“India-Japan Summit will be held on March 19th. At the invitation of PM Modi, PM of Japan Fumio Kishida will be undertaking an official visit to New Delhi from 19-20 March for 14th India-Japan Annual Summit. This will be the first meeting of these 2 leaders,” news agency ANI quoted Bagchi as saying.

Speaking further on the upcoming meeting, Bagchi said, “India-Japan have multi-faceted cooperation within the ambit of their special strategic, global partnership,” adding that the summit will provide an opportunity to review and strengthen the bilateral cooperation in diverse areas as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest between the two nations.

Modi To Hold Virtual Summit With Australian Counterpart On March 21

In a bid to further expand the bilateral ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison will hold the second virtual summit on March 21.

The announcement was made by External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi at a media briefing on Thursday.

Notably, the two nations have boosted their ties over the last few years. In June 2020, India and Australia strengthened their relation to a comprehensive strategic partnership and signed a landmark deal for reciprocal access to military bases for logistics support.

The Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA) allows militaries of both the countries to use each other's bases for repair and replenishment of supplies and also scaling up of overall defence cooperation.
