India Records Over 4000 Covid Deaths For 2nd Consecutive Day, 4.03 Lakh New Cases In Last 24 Hrs

India has reported the second-highest death toll today and registered over 4.03 lakh new infections.

Covid In India: While the nation continues to battle the second Covid wave, India has again reported over 4000 fatalities in a single day

India registered 4,03,738 new COVID-19 cases, 3,86,444 discharges, and 4,092 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry.

Delhi recorded 332 more covid-19 deaths and 17,364 new infections today, while the positivity rate remained below 25% for the third consecutive day, the Health Department said.

West Bengal registered its highest single-day COVID-19 deaths with 127 new fatalities, pushing the death toll to 12,203, the health department said. The coronavirus caseload increased to 9,73,718 after the state also recorded its highest one-day spike of 19,436 fresh cases, it said. North 24 Parganas district accounted for the highest number of fatalities at 39 while the city registered 34 deaths, it said. Neighbouring Hooghly district reported 9 COVID-19 deaths, South 24 Parganas (7), Howrah (6), and the rest of the fatalities were from the other districts. Out of the 127 deaths, 50 were due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.

Another factor that is scaring the Covid patients is the Black Fungus which is leading to loss of eyesight and memory which is pushing patients to land into depression. Cases of mucormycosis, a serious but rare fungal infection, are on the rise among COVID-19 survivors, causing blindness or other serious issues, health officials in Maharashtra and Gujarat said on Saturday. Mathur Savani, chairman of Surat-based Kiran Super Multi-speciality Hospital, said mucormycosis patients are coming to his hospital from many parts of Gujarat. "Fifty mucormycosis patients are being treated and 60 more are awaiting treatment," Savani told PTI. Seven such patients lost their eyesight, he said
