'We Are Worried': Parents Of Indian Students In Canada Urge Govts To Find Solution Amid Diplomatic Tensions

The diplomatic conflict between the two nations sparked by the death of Khalistani rebel Hardeep Singh Nijjar has also placed a pall over the future of students intending to study in Canada.

The tension between India and Canada has caused concern among parents whose children study and live in Canada. The diplomatic conflict between the two nations sparked by the death of Khalistani rebel Hardeep Singh Nijjar has also placed a pall over the future of students intending to study in Canada.

Voicing concern over his daughter studying in Canada, Balwinder Singh stated: "We are worried, my daughter went to Canada to study, it's been 7 months since she has left...there is news in the media that there is tension going on between both the countries (India and Canada). My child is also worried there, she can't focus on her studies," ANI reported.

Speaking on India- Canada row, Kuldeep Kaur, whose daughters study in Canada said: "My two daughters are in Canada and I am tensed...they have gone there to study. Govts of both countries should together find a solution".

On India-Canada row, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr A.K. Abdul Momen said: " I think it is very sad, I don't know the details of it so I can't make any comment but...we are very proud of India because they don't do immature things, we have a very solid relationship with India and these are based on values and principles. This is a sad episode and I hope this will end up amicably."

On Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that there were 'credible reasons to suspect that operatives of the government of India were involved' in the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. According to US ambassador David Cohen, the claim was made following "shared intelligence among Five Eyes partners."

Speaking with CTV News Channel, US Envoy to Canada stated: “There was shared intelligence among Five Eyes partners that helped lead Canada to make the statements that the Prime Minister made. In the days since, as diplomatic tensions continue to ratchet up — from Canada reassessing its staffing in India, to India suspending visa services for Canadians — there have been swirling questions about what intelligence is at the centre of this story, who was aware of it, and when."

The Five Eyes intelligence alliance consists of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It includes both surveillance and signal intelligence. This is the first acknowledgement by a US government official on intelligence sharing with Five Eyes partners Canada.
