‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Is Mass Movement, Not Just A Govt Program': PM Modi On Digital India, Other Initiatives

PM Modi appeals to Indians and private sector of businesses to help the nation become 'aatmanirbhar', to make a mark in the world

Independence Day 2022: In his ninth Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the efforts to make India self-reliant and said this is a mass movement of the society that has to be taken forward. "A self-reliant India or 'aatmanirbhar Bharat' is the responsibility of every citizen, every government, and every unit of society. Self-reliant India -- this is not a government agenda or a government programme. This is a mass movement of the society, which we have to take forward," PM Modi said during his Independence Day 2022 speech.

"I invite the private sector to ensure that ‘made in India’ products are spread globally," Modi added. Addressing the nation on India’s 76th Independence Day, Modi said India needs to be a developed nation in the next 25 years.

“Today, we are seeing the Digital India initiative, startups grow in the country, and a lot of talent is coming from Tier 2 & 3 cities. We have to believe in our abilities,” Modi said in his speech.

PM Modi lauded the tech sector in India as he said India's startups are creating new platforms for the youth. “This decade is the decade of technology. India has created a name in the world of information technology. So India has the backbone to make the best of this decade. Atal Innovation Mission, our startups, our incubation centres are all together creating a new sector which is bringing new opportunities for India’s youth,” PM Modi said. 

Speaking on India's fintech and 5G prowess, the Prime Minister said, "About 40 percent digital transactions of the world are happening in India. India has achieved it. We are now moving towards 5G very soon. We are making optical fibre available in every village of this country. The dream of Digital India passes through villages of this country. I am happy that India’s 400,000 common service centres are being developed in the villages."

PM Modi appeals to Indians and the private sector of businesses to help the nation become 'aatmanirbhar', to make a mark in the world. "We have to take pride in swadesi," he added.

Modi expressed happiness over the adoption of Indian toys and children ditching foreign-made toys. He also spoke about PLI schemes, and India becoming a manufacturing hub generating employment. Modi also said he is "proud" of the indigenously developed howitzer gun which was used for the first time as part of the 21-gun salute at Red Fort. 

The PM also spoke about reliance in the energy sector as well. "India's industrial growth will come from grassroots; Our MSMEs, street vendors and those in organised sectors need to be strengthened," the PM added. 

He also praised the capabilities of small farmers, small industrialists, and traders, among others, saying they are guaranteed to create a capable India.
 
From the space sector to drone manufacturing to natural farming, India progressing rapidly in every sector, the PM added.

"Atal Bihari Vajpayee added 'Jai Vigyaan' to this slogan. Now, there is another necessity to add, Jai Anusandhan. Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyaan aur Jai Anusandhan,” PM Modi said in his speech. 'Anusandhan' refers to research and innovation.
