'If They Can't Tackle The Issue Then...': Assam CM Himanta Sarma Asks Congress To Resolve Angkita Dutta Matter
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this is a matter of the Congress and if they can tackle the issue then there will be no need to involve CID or the police.
New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday asked Congress to resolve the matter of president of the Assam unit of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Angkita Dutta, or law will take its own course, news agency ANI reported. Dutta, on Thursday, lodged a police complaint against IYC national president Srinivas BV, accusing him of harassment.
Assam Chief Minister said this is a matter of the Congress and if they can tackle the issue then there will be no need to involve CID or the police.
“Angkita Dutta is the daughter of Assam. The way Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has tackled this matter is sad. They (Assam Congress) are thinking that she has given a wrong statement and IYC President is right. I would have been happy if Assam Congress talks in favour of her. But what we see is completely opposite,” ANI quoted CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as saying.

Angkita Dutta recorded her statement in the case before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Guwahati on Friday.
“It is Congress' matter, and if they tackle the issue then there will be no need for the involvement of CID or police. If the issue is not resolved, then the law will have to take its course,” CM Sarma added.
Notably, in her complaint, Angkita Dutta accused IYC National President Srinivas BV of persistently harassing her for the past six months. She said Srinivas made sexist comments and threatened of dire consequences if she complained against him.
“Recently, on March 25, 2023, when I was in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, I went to Hotel May Fair in the evening to meet the office bearers of the Congress. Bhupen Borah, state president of Congress, was there for the plenary session. I ran into Srinivas BV there at the entrance of the hotel. He heckled me, holding my arm, pushing and pulling me and threatening me, using slang words, saying that he will ruin my career in the Congress if I complained against him before the high office-bearers of the party,” Dutta stated in her complaint.
