The C-130J aircraft, known for its advanced technology and versatality, was used in the landing which showcased the proficieny and growth of the IAF personnel.
The use of NVG during night-time operations improves the force's capability to conduct operations in low light conditions, adding to its strategic advantage. Besides this, the ALGs play a critical role in enhancing the force's ability to repond quickly in case a contingency arises in remote areas.
C-130J is known for being the most advanced airlift and was delivered to India under a US Government Foreign Military Sales programme.
IAF's C-130J Super Hercules is a highly integrated and sophisticated configuration that is primarily designed to support India’s special operations requirement, and is suited to our country's mission environment.
In January, the aircraft, ultilised by IAF for special operations and humanitarian crisis, made a night landing at the Kargil airstrip. This was the first time that a landing was carried out by IAF at an airstrip near the Line of Control in Ladakh.
In November 2023, IAF successfully landed two C-130J Super Hercules military transport aircraft in Uttarakhand at an unfeasible airstrip. The mission was carried out to transport heavy engineering equipment that were required in the rescue of workers trapped inside an under-construction mountain tunnel in the Himalayan region.
