Hyderabad Gangrape: Police Say Allegations Of MLA Son's Involvement Baseless, One Held

Tension prevailed at Jubilee Hills police station on Friday as BJP workers staged a protest demanding arrest of the accused involved in the alleged rape case.

Days after an alleged case of gangrape of a 17-year-old girl by a group of teenagers in Hyderabad, Police on Friday said that out of the 5 culprits that were identified, three are minors. While speaking to reporters, Joel Davis, West Zone DCP also informed that one of the accused indentified as Saduddin Malik has been arrested. 

The DCP also pointed out that allegation of MLA's son's involvemet in the rape is baseless. 

"There were a lot of allegations in the media on MLA's son. As per the statement of the victim, CDR analysis, and the CCTV footage, he was not among those 5. We are still investigating for further evidence," Davis said. 

"Victim could not reveal anything about culprits. She only revealed one name and special teams were immediately formed to nab them. CCTV footage recovered. We have identified 5 culprits as per CCTV footage and as per the statement of the victim," Davis said.

For one juvenile in conflict with law, we could get specific lead, Davis said adding that because of night time, Police could not apprehend him. "I am hopeful that we will be able to apprehend him tomorrow. He is the son of a VIP," he added. 

Earlier in the day, Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao condemned the incident, demanding immediate and stern action against the accused. He also said that nobody should be spared based on their status or affiliation. 

"Outraged & shocked with the news of the rape of a minor in Hyderabad Request HM @mahmoodalitrs Garu @TelanganaDGP Garu and @CPHydCity to take immediate & stern action. Please don’t spare anyone involved irrespective of their statuses or affiliations," the minister tweeted.

Workers of BJP and BJYM staged a sit-in at the police station, raising slogans demanding arrest of the accused said to be belonging to politically influential families. 

Reportedly, the victim had gone to a pub for a party and after promising to drop her home ,the accused sexually assaulted her in a Mercedes car. The shocking incident came to light on Friday. Police reportedly detained two suspects and were questioning them.

The girl was raped in a luxury car in posh Jubilee Hills on May 28 by 3-5 accused.
