'Humble & Simple Person': Nepali Singer Posts Photo With Rahul Gandhi Amid BJP's Sharp Attacks On Leader

The photograph was shared by Nepali singer Saraswoti Khatri on Twitter sharing her experience of meeting the Congress leader.

New Delhi: While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is in Nepal to attend a friend's wedding, a photo went viral on social media two days ago where he is seen in a nightclub partying with a lady. BJP has been lambasting him for attending a marriage celebration of his friend Sumnima Udas, daughter of a Nepali diplomat who supports Nepal's claim over regions in Uttarakhand. Now, a new photo of the Congress leader has surfaced on social media which was shared by a Nepali singer.

The photograph was shared by Nepali singer Saraswoti Khatri on Twitter sharing her experience of meeting the Congress leader. Posting the photo on the microblogging platform, "Music has the power to bring all people together. I had an honor to sing few songs for Honorable member of Indian Parliament member Mr. Rahul Gandhi ji yesterday evening. I found him such humble & simple person. Thanks to Sumnima ji, Nima Ji for this opportunity.

It can be understood from her tweet that the singer was also in attendance at Sumnima Udas's wedding and even performed for the audience at the event.

The tweet comes amid BJP's back to back attacks on Rahul Gandhi for having " ties only with those who are challenging India's territorial integrity"

BJP IT convener Amit Malviya had trained guns on the Congress leader on Wednesday raising questions on his Nepal visit.

"Rahul Gandhi was supposedly at the wedding of Sumnima Udas, a Nepali diplomat's daughter, who actively supports Nepal's claim over regions of India's Uttarakhand. From China to Nepal, why does Rahul have ties only with those who are challenging India's territorial integrity?" Malviya tweeted.

After Rahul Gandhi's video from a nightclub went viral, Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju also took potshots at Gandhi said regular parties, vacations, holidays, pleasure trips, and private foreign visits are nothing new to the nation now.

“Regular Parties, Vacations, Holidays, Pleasure Trips, Private Foreign Visits etc are nothing new to the nation now. As a private citizen there's no issue at all but when an MP, a permanent boss of a national political party who keeps preaching others.....,” he tweeted.

BJP's charges evoked a sharp response from the Congress, which said Rahul Gandhi was in Nepal to attend the marriage of a journalist friend, and that was "not a crime".

Who Is Sumnima Udas?

Sumnima Udas was a former correspondent with CNN and was based in Delhi. She covered politics, economics, social, and environment for CNN from 2001 to 2017, as per her LinkedIn profile.

Udas is reportedly getting married to Nima Martin Sherpa. Sherpa is a China-based businessman who runs a company in Guangzhou by the name SML Holdings, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Sumnima's father, Bhim Udas, was a former ambassador to Myanmar. Bhim Udas has confirmed to The Kathmandu Post that Gandhi was in Kathmandu to attend the wedding ceremony of his daughter.
