How Long Will They Keep The Door Closed: Jaishankar On India's UNSC Membership Bid
EAM Jaishankar also said the West thinks it has a God-given right to comment on internal matters of other countries.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said a few countries do not want India to be a member of the the United Nations Security Council. He said the doors will not be kept closed for India for too long, adding that the country will not spare any effort to get a seat at the UNSC, reported news agency ANI.
We will spare no effort, some of the current members sitting in the UNSC aren't keen that India should also be a member of the UNSC. He further said, "We are among the top economies in the world and we make a big difference. It is something that we will pursue."He was on a visit to Karnataka, when he further criticised the West for its "habit of commenting on other countries' internal matters".
Jaishankar said, "The West thinks it has a God-given right to comment on internal matters of other countries," reported ANI.
The EAM gave one more reason why the West keeps commenting on India. He said that if somebody from here goes abroad and criticises India, then they get encouraged to do so even more. He described them (West) as part of the problem and another part of the problem are the ones who go to foreign lands and comment on India. Jaishankar said, "I think both need fixing."
He was speaking at a meet and greet morning interaction on Sunday organised by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya in Karnataka.
In his separate interaction with intellectuals in Dharwad today, he has also reacted strongly to separatist Khalistanis and incidents of vandalism of the Tricolour in different parts of the world.
The Minister said he will not accept any attempts to pull down India's national flags.
He said, "The days when India would have taken this lightly are behind us and this is not the India which will accept its national flag being pulled down by somebody," as quoted by ANI.
We've seen incidents in London, Canada, San Francisco, there's a very small minority, behind that minority there are many interests...If they don't provide security then there will be reaction from India.
