Himachal Police Withdraw Order Seeking Character Certificates For Journalists Covering PM Modi's Events Tomorrow

Himachal Pradesh Police had asked media persons to provide certificates of their character verification to access Prime Minister Narendra Modi's events slated to take place tomorrow.

New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Police on Tuesday withdrew their order that sought all private press correspondents, photographers, and videographers as well as the teams of Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio (AIR) to provide certificates of their character verification to access Prime Minister Narendra Modi's events slated to be held tomorrow.

In the previous notification, the police stated: "The certificate of character verification may be supplied to the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID, Bilaspur by October 1, 2022 positively. Their access within the rally or meeting will be decided by this office."

After a row over the same, Superintendent of Police, Bilaspur, issued a fresh directive expressing regret for the previous notification. "It is regretted that above letter was inadvertently issued by this office. The above letter stands withdrawn," the new order reads.

Himachal Pradesh Police will facilitate their coverage. Any inconvenience is regretted."

All eyes are set on PM Modi's visit to poll-bound Himachal Pradesh after his last rally in the state - scheduled for September 24 in Mandi - was cancelled due to bad weather.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects worth over ₹3650 crores, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Monday informed.

He will inaugurate AIIMS in Bilaspur on October 5 at 11.30 am. The foundation stone of this AIIMS was laid by PM Modi in 2017.

Among the projects that the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for is the four-lane of 31-km-long National Highway between Pinjore and Nalagarh. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a medical park in Nalagarh. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 350 crore.

The Prime Minister will also attend the Kullu Dussehra celebrations tomorrow.
