More Rains In Delhi and Mumbai, 'Red Alert' In Bihar: Check IMD Forecast For Next 5 Days

Incessant rain has resulted in a rise in water levels in several rivers, resulting in floods in 633 villages across 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a 'red alert', predicting extremely heavy rainfall in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Bihar on Thursday. The weather department also warned that the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase in the national capital Delhi over the coming days, while light showers and sunny skies are expected over the country's financial centre Mumbai. 

 A red alert is the most urgent form of alert, signaling rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm within 24 hours. 

Meanwhile, incessant rain has resulted in a rise in water levels in several rivers, resulting in floods in 633 villages across 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh. As many as 19 people were killed in rain-related incidents across the state in a day, UP relief department officials said on Wednesday. Teams of the NDRF and the SDRF are coordinating with the local administration to mitigate flood-related issues in the affected areas. 


IMD Forecast For Next 5 Days

West and South Peninsular India: In its latest forecast, IMD said light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over several areas in Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry during next five days.

Isolated, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, North
Interior Karnataka and Gujarat Region from July 11 to 15. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Saurashtra and Kutch on July 11, Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka from July 12 to 15, IMD said.

The weathermen also predicted isolated, very heavy rainfall over Goa on July 11, and over Konkan from July 12 to 15. It said that from July 11 to July 16, Mumbai is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain.

East and Northeast India: According to IMD, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Bihar, northeastern states, Jharkhand, and Odisha during the next five days.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from July 11 to 15. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Jharkhand on July 11 and 12, over Odisha from July 12 to 15; and over Nagaland and Manipur on July 11 and 14," the weathermen said.

It also cautioned about isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Bihar on July 11.

Northwest and Central India: As per IMD, fairly light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, parts of Rajasthan and Central India during the next five days. The agency said Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi will also witness light to moderate till Saturday.

"Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over East Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from July 11 to 15, in Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh on July 11 and 12, in Himachal Pradesh from July 11 to 11, in Jammu on July 12 and 13, in north Haryana, and north Punjab on July 12 and in east Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on July 11. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over East Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh on July 11," IMD said.
