Heatwave in India: Rain in next 2 days to bring relief in Delhi-NCR, govt issues advisory for students

However, the national capital and its adjoining areas are likely to get some respite from the sweltering heat on Eid as the weatherman has forecast partly cloudy sky, possibility of rain and thunderstorm with lightening and gusty winds up to 40 kmph. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had on Tuesday confirmed that the city will receive some rain which will bring slight relief from the intense heat in the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, light rains were experienced in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat last evening. The Met department has forecast lightning with gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 kilometers per hours in Jammu city with light rains on Wednesday. Slight relief from heatwave following rain in several parts On Tuesday, heatwave conditions persisted at many places in Haryana and Punjab too, but light rains at some places brought respite from the scorching weather. The IMD said there will be no large change in maximum temperatures over the next two days. Watch- Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday witnessed slight relief from the heatwave sweeping parts of north India following rainfall at several places in the state during the last 24 hours. According to the IMD forecast, severe heatwave conditions are very likely to continue to prevail over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on Wednesday and decrease in intensity thereafter. Heatwave conditions are very likely to continue to prevail over south Haryana till Friday, it said. Watch- Dry weather in Uttar Pradesh Maximum temperatures rose by a few notches at many places in Uttar Pradesh as the weather remained dry in the state on Tuesday. Jhansi was recorded as the hottest place in the state at 45.7 degrees Celsius, an official at the MeT Department said. Allahabad recorded a high of 42.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Kanpur 42 degrees Celsius, Varanasi 41 degrees Celsius and Lucknow 40 degrees Celsius, he said. Watch- According to a forecast by the MeT Department, the weather is likely to remain dry over eastern Uttar Pradesh, and rains/ thunderstorm are very likely at isolated places over western Uttar Pradesh in the next few days. Delhi govt issues heatwave advisory for students In view of the prevailing heat, the Delhi government has issued an advisory for school students and discontinued the summer sports and yoga coaching camps for them. The advisory directed the heads of all government, government-aided and unaided recognised schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE) to sensitise the students regarding heatwave-related illnesses in the morning assembly or in classrooms by the nodal teachers, designated to carry out activities related to raising awareness on heatwave-related illnesses in schools. "Keep yourself updated regarding the local weather forecast to know if a heatwave is on the way in the coming days by means of radio, TV, newspaper etc. Even if you are not thirsty, you should drink sufficient water as often as possible, especially while working outside under high temperature," the advisory said.
