'Have Taken Issue Up With Speaker': Adhir Chowdhury After Parts Of Rahul's Speech Expunged

Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury has said he has spoken with the Speaker after parts of Rahul Gandhi's speech during the no-confidence debate were expunged on Wednesday.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has said he has approached the speaker after parts of Rahul Gandhi's speech during the no-trust denate was expunged. He said, "There is a provision to remove words if they are unparliamentarian. But we have to see if Rahul Gandhi has used any such word which should be removed from the record. Saying Bharat Mata is the right of every India? We can call the country our mother? Rahul Gandhi said this. He said Bharat Mata was insulted and was in pain. He said onemother was in Parliament and he saw another mother in Manipur. I already spoke to the Speaker. Several his words have been removed and I don't think they should have been. The Speaker has assured us that he would look into the matter."

This comes after parts of Rahul Gandhi's speech in Lok Sabha was expunged from the records. This was his first speech in Parliament after his Lok Sabha membership was restored after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in the Modi surname defamation case filed by a BJP leader and in which he was also sentenced to jail for two years.

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday tore into the Centre over the issue of Manipur violence and held Prime Minister Modi responsible for the situation in the state. He even recalled incidents during his visit to the state and lashed out at the Prime Minister for not visiting the violence-hit state and questioned his stance on the issue. He alleged that the Centre only pays heed to issues when there are upcoming elections.

This session of Parliament has seen the issue of Manipur taking centrestage and after days of disruptions and demands by the Opposition, Prime Minister Modi on Thursday will reply to the Opposition no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha today.
