Six people were murdered, including two home guards and a priest, after communal confrontations erupted in Nuh on July 31 after some individuals reportedly threw stones on a VHP rally.
A group of top Haryana Congress leaders led by the party's state unit chairman Udai Bhan will visit Nuh district today, news agency PTI reported. The visit, according to the party, is intended to restore peace and fraternity in the area, which has been ravaged by communal strife. Six people were murdered, including two home guards and a priest, after communal confrontations erupted in Nuh on July 31 after some individuals reportedly threw stones on a Vishva Hindu Parishad parade. The rioting extended to adjacent Gurugram as well.
“A delegation of senior party leaders led by Haryana Congress president Chaudhary Udai Bhan will visit Nuh on Tuesday where it will meet the violence-affected victims and the people of the of the area” a statement issued by the party’s state unit was quoted by PTI in its report.
Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the state legislature Bhupinder Singh Hooda would join the delegation visiting violence-hit Nuh, according to the statement.
“The purpose of this visit is to re-establish peace and brotherhood in the area and find out the truth,” it said.
Congress has called for a judicial investigation into the Nuh violence under the supervision of a high court judge.
Hooda claimed the violence would not have occurred if the BJP-JJP administration had taken "proper steps" on time and treated the sensitivity of the issue seriously.
He claimed that the administration had been a "complete failure" in carrying out its responsibilities.
Hooda stated that a court investigation is required to guarantee that the guilty in the matter are not spared and that no innocent people experience any consequences.
Haryana Congress president Bhan alleged that there is a lack of cooperation on the Nuh problem between the chief minister and the home minister.
“The chief minister says the police cannot provide security to all and the home minister says he cannot respond to questions on the violence…In such a situation, the question before the people of the state is, who is responsible for the law and order,” he said.
