Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Resigns, New Cabinet Likely To Take Oath With Him On Dec 12

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah would attend Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's swearing-in ceremony on December 12.

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday arrived at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar to tender his resignation to the state governor, Acharya Devvrat.

At the meeting, the BJP staked a claim to form the government. State BJP Legislature Party will hold a meeting tomorrow in its party headquarters 'Kamalam' at 10 am.

Party President CR Paatil sought an appointment with the Governor tomorrow at 2 pm for the formation of the new government.

According to sources, the new Gujarat Cabinet will take the oath with the Chief Minister on December 12 in a ceremony wherein more than a dozen ministers will be sworn in.

Securing a historic mandate in Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said that Bhupendra Patel would continue as the Chief Minister of the state and his oath-taking ceremony would take place on December 12.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah would attend his swearing-in ceremony, BJP's state unit president C R Paatil said on Thursday while addressing a press conference.

"Bhupendra Patel will continue as the state chief minister and his oath-taking ceremony would take place on December 12," Paatil said.

He also lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for trying to "demean" the people of Gujarat with "dole politics". "The AAP never thought about Gujarati asmita and was never able to connect with the psyche of the people of Gujarat," he said, as per news agency PTI.

"All anti-Gujarati forces have been defeated...The people of Gujarat had already made up their mind to re-elect the BJP government in the state. It's a victory of good governance and development of BJP government at Centre and Gujarat. The Congress must introspect as to why they are losing public support," the BJP leader added.

The BJP won a record 156 seats in Gujarat with a staggering 52.5 per cent vote share in its seventh consecutive poll victory. As opposed to this, the Opposition Congress and AAP got over 27 per cent and about 13 per cent vote share respectively. The Congress secured mere 17 seats while the AAP managed to bag five.

Independents won three seats and the Samajwadi Party picked up one.
