Will Definitely Go: Arvind Kejriwal On Goa Police's Notice In Defacement Of Public Property Case

Goa police has asked Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to appear before it on 27th April in connection with the defacement of public property case.

Goa police has issued a notice summoning Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on 27th April in connection with putting up propaganda material on government property during state elections last year. Kejriwal has been asked to appear for questioning before Pernem police on April 27th at 11 am. According to a PTI report, the police asked him to appear before it for allegedly sticking of posters on public properties during the 2022 Assembly elections campaign. Inspector Dilipkumar Halarnkar of Pernem police station issued the notice to Kejriwal under section 41 (A) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. 

Under the section, police can summon a person for inquiry if there is "reasonable" complaint or suspicion that he had committed an offence, as reported by PTI. 

Reacting to the summons, Arvind Kejriwal told media persons that he would definitely go before the Goa police. "I will definitely go," he said.

The notice said, "During the investigation of a case about the defacement of property, it is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you in relation to the present investigation."

A senior police official said that Pernem police are investigating a case against the Aam Adami Party (AAP) for allegedly pasting election posters on public walls during the Assembly campaign. The case as been registered under the Goa Prevention of Defacement of Property Act.  

Inspector Halarnkar said that AAP Goa chief Amit Palekar was summoned by Pernem police at 11.30 am on Thursday but he failed to appear. 

When contacted, PTI said, Palekar claimed that he had not received any summons. "I am travelling abroad for five days starting today. I will look into the matter once I am back," he added 

Notably, the AAP won two seats in the 2022 polls in the BJP-ruled state.
