Goa Election 2022: Single Phase Voting To Be Held On Feb 14 — Check Assembly Constituencies Going To Polls
Goa Election 2022 Assembly Constituencies: 40 assembly constituencies of the state will go to polls on February 14 in a single phase.
New Delhi: Polling in Goa will be held in a single phase and voting is set to take place on February 14, Monday. All the 40 assembly constituencies of Goa will be going to the polls as campaigning for Goa election 2022 came to an end on February 12, Saturday. For the 40-member Goa assembly, 301 candidates are in the fray.
Goa is set to witness an intense battle this year and will be a litmus test for both Congress and BJP. In 2017, Congress emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats under its belt while BJP got 13. In terms of vote share, BJP triumphed Congress by winning 32.48% of the total vote share, which was 4% more than congress.
Despite having less number of assembly seats, BJP was able to form the government in the state in 2017 with support from the regional parties.
Congress had to deal with a fair share of problems in the state, with as many as 15 MLA’s quitting the party over the last 5 years. Even Luizino Falerio, the former CM of congress, quit to join the new entrant Trinamool Congress (TMC). This time around, Congress has fielded 31 new faces out of which 18 are contesting for the first time.
The presence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal and TMC makes Goa an exciting viewing this year.
This is the second time AAP is participating in the Goa elections, in 2017 Goa assembly elections they contested 39 seats but did now win even a single one however they did manage to accumulate around 6.27% of the vote share
Other parties in the mix are the Nationalist Congress Party of Sharad Pawar and the Shiv Sena. Both of these parties wanted an alliance with Congress just like the one in Maharashtra, but Congress did not agree to it.
