Global Cases Of Covid-19 Surge Past 8.64 Million, US Still The Worst Nation Affected By Coronavirus

Worldwide the number of coronavirus cases has reached 8,641,521 cases. There have been 4,59,474 fatalities caused by Covid-19 across the world.

New Delhi: The cases of coronavirus have continued to rise and according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University, the total tally has reached 8,641,521 cases. The total number of fatalities caused by Covid-19 across the world has climbed to 4,59,474. Despite the high numbers many states are entering phase 2 of reopening the lockdown which was imposed to check the spread of the virus. According to a report by IANS, Washington D.C. will begin phase two of reopening on June 22, Monday after the city saw a decrease in the number of cases for 15 consecutive days. Similarly, New York state will also be entering phase 2 of reopening. The death toll in the country has reached 1,19,112 Brazil is in the second position with a total of 1,032,913 cases. The country has so far seen 48,954 Covid-19 deaths. According to media reports President Jair Bolsonaro has been criticised for the state of the country as he refused to take adequate measures in the early days of the pandemic. Russia with 5,68,292 cases is in the third position. The country has seen 7831 deaths due to the coronavirus. The country has also started trials for a potential coronavirus vaccine. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare so far there have been 12948 deaths. United Kingdom(303,285), Spain(2,45,575), Peru(2,44,388), Italy(2,38,011), Chile(2,31,393) and Iran(2,00,262) all fall under the top 10 countries with highest number of covid-19 cases. The World Health Organization(WHO) has warned that the world is entering a "new and dangerous" phase of the pandemic. The UN Body's statement came at the back of Thursday witnessing a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases worldwide, the most cases in a single day reported to the WHO.
