Gadkari dismisses probability of becoming PM face for 2019 polls; says 'happy with my work'

The buzz around Gadkari's probability to be the PM face started after the head of a Maharashtra government panel Kishor Tiwari wrote to the RSS, demanding Gadkari to be allowed to lead the party in the 2019 polls.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has clarified that he has no interests in becoming the Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2019 elections. In an interview to news agency ANI, Gadkari dismissed the probability of him replacing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the PM candidate for the upcoming elections. The buzz started after the media reports about the head of a government organisation in Maharashtra Kishor Tiwari writing to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), demanding Gadkari be allowed to lead the Bharatiya Janata Party if it wants to win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Gadkari was quoted by the agency as saying: “No there is no chance. I am happy where I am right now.” Gadkari who holds the Ministry of Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, in the Government of India, enumerated the long list of projects that he has at his early priority. He said he has to complete Ganga work first, building of Express Highway Access Control in 13-14 countries, make roads for Chaar Dhams (four pilgrimages) and other works. He said he was happy doing these works and wanted to complete it. In the last few days, BJP Chief Amit Shah also said that during the upcoming elections, the saffron party will be spearheaded by PM Narendra Modi only. BJP got a tremendous majority in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections which BJP contested under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. The BJP is convinced that Modi will lead the party to victory in the 2019 polls as well.
