Foreign Secretary Briefs Tharoor-Led Parliamentary Panel On India-Pakistan Conflict, Operation Sindoor

Foreign Secretary Misri briefed the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs about India's foreign policy, focusing on Operation Sindoor and subsequent military engagements with Pakistan.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday briefed members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs at the Parliament House Annexe, with the focus on recent developments in India’s foreign policy, particularly in the context of the India-Pakistan military conflict following the Pahalgam terror attack.

The briefing is being held against the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian armed forces to avenge the Pahalgam attack. The operation led to subsequent military engagements between India and Pakistan, which culminated in a mutual understanding to cease all military actions on 10 May.

Congress MP and Chairman of the Committee, Shashi Tharoor, is also among the leaders heading one of the seven delegations selected to convey India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism to the international community.

Shashi Tharoor On Parliamentary Standing Committee Briefing

Speaking to news agency ANI, Tharoor stated, “The briefing for my delegation is going to be only on Friday. So, honestly, I am not going to say anything right now. Some of the teams are leaving earlier and that’s why they need to have their meeting tomorrow. But our delegation is leaving a bit later because the US has a big Memorial Day weekend and the Congress in the US is not in session until 2nd June. So, there is no point in arriving there too early. So, we are arriving later and leaving later… 24th May, I believe (when his delegation will leave)… We are going first to Georgetown (Guyana), Panama, Columbia, Brazil and then finally to the US…”

He further added, “Today, we have a briefing by the Foreign Secretary about Operation Sindoor…”

Several other parliamentarians, including Congress MP Rajeev Shukla and BJP MPs RPN Singh, Aparajita Sarangi and Arun Govil, were present at the meeting. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, BJP MPs Naveen Jindal, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Satnam Singh Sandhu also arrived for the committee proceedings.

The government has resolved to dispatch all-party delegations to 33 global capitals to apprise world leaders of India’s firm commitment to counter terrorism, especially in light of Operation Sindoor.

In a related development, the Parliamentary Committee on Water Resources, chaired by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, is slated to be briefed by officials from various government departments on matters concerning flood management, river bank protection, soil erosion, and monsoon relief measures, including those related to transboundary rivers.
