Massive Forest Fires Rage Across Kashmir Amid Prolonged Dry Spell
A massive fire erupted in the upper forests in the Tral areas on Saturday night following ongoing dry weather and minimal snowfall.

Due to the ongoing dry weather and minimal snowfall, a massive fire broke out at several locations across Kashmir on Sunday. While forest and disaster management teams, along with the police, are working to extinguish the flames, experts attribute the increasing incidents of forest fires to a combination of climatic factors and human negligence.
The massive fire erupted in the upper forests in the Tral areas on Saturday night due to the dry vegetation it continued to spread, and efforts are on to douse the fire. Similarly, in the Pinglish area of Tral area, a fire started and has spread to other areas as well. Forest officials also said that a fire broke out in the Dadoo Marhama area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Officials stated that they are making every effort to extinguish the flames as quickly as possible.
A massive forest fire broke out in Kunan village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district this evening, prompting officials and emergency teams to rush to the scene. Locals reported that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing vast stretches of forest land and causing concern among nearby residents.
"Thick plumes of smoke were visible from a distance," they said.
The administration deployed teams to contain the blaze, local volunteers joined in the efforts to prevent further damage.
The extent of the destruction remains unknown an official informed adding that assessments were underway and firefighting operations were in progress. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, though dry conditions in the forests may have contributed to its rapid spread.
Experts link the rise in forest fires to a combination of climatic factors and human negligence. The ongoing dry spell has made forests more vulnerable to fires, with multiple incidents reported in recent weeks.
