Shopian encounter: Security forces gun down two terrorists, combing operations underway
An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning, defence officials said.
Shopian: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning, defence officials said. In Meemendar area of Shopian, security forces launched a cordon and search operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of three militants, the officials said. As per latest reports, two terrorists had been gunned down by security forces. Combing operations are underway.
After the militants opened fire, the gun battle turned into an encounter. There were no reports of any casualties on the Indian side so far in the operation, the officials said.
The exchange of fire comes a day after Indian Air Force (IAF) bombed and destroyed three major Jaish-e-Mohammed's (JeM) training camp located well inside the Pakistan territory. The air strike killed a very large number of terrorists, trainers and senior commanders.
The strike was the first by the IAF inside Pakistan after the 1971 war.
