Several incidents of wild animals attacking humans have been reported in several parts of the country of late. Due to incresing deforestation and climate change these wild animals have to forced to entre in locations where people live. In a recent such incident, a wild elephant suddenly came in front of a car and started chasing it. Reportedly, the incident took place in the Kabini National Park, near Mysuru.

In the video, shared by IAS Supriya Sahu on Twitter, a gigantic wild male elephant can be seen charging towards a Mandira Safari jeep. It was the skill and presence of mind of the driver that he was able to save the lives of people aboard the jeep.

The incident took place at a path built inside the national park for tourist to experience wildlife. In the vidoe, the elephant can be seen standing in the middle of the road when suddently the jeep reached close to it.

As soon as the driver noticed the elephant charging towards the jeep, he quickly applied reverse gear and started driving backwards. The elephant came to close to the jeep that its trunk and tusk came in contact of the vehicle. The driver, however, kept looking at the ORV mirror and kept driving in reverse.

Driver's control over the vehicle was commendable. After chasing the jeep for some distance, the elephant stopped and moved to the jungle.

In another incident, a man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Assam's Tamulpur district earlier this week. Police officials told news agency IANS that the victim was attacked by a herd of wild elephants when he was going into the nearby forest.

Such man-elephant encounters have significantly increased across the in the recent years. Experts believe that this is due to forest cover being continuously depleted in the state and wild animals are entering human localities in search of food.

Even last week, a wild elephant swam across the Brahmaputra river and entered Tezpur town in Assam. It went on a massive rampage in the town causing panic among the people. However, the forest officials later pushed back the elephant into the forest.
