Earthquake Of 4.7 Magnitude Jolts North Kargil

Earthquake of 4.7 magnitude stuck areas of North Kargil and Ladakh on Tuesday.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter Scale struck areas near North Kargil and Ladakh on Tuesday. The tremors were felt at around 401km North of Kargil, Laddakh at around 7:38 am, said National Center for Seismology.

Three earthquakes shook the Himalayan region early morning on June 18, among them the first hit the Union Territory of Ladakh at 2:50 am. The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.1 on the Richter scale at a depth of 10 km. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake was measured at 295 kilometres northeast of the Leh district of Ladakh. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the surface at a latitude of 35.85 degrees north and a longitude of 80.08 degrees east. No casualties were reported.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred on 18-06-2023, 02:16:49 IST, Lat: 35.85 & Long: 80.08, Depth: 10 Km , Location: 295km NE of Leh, Ladakh," tweeted NCS.

Following this another earthquake struck, Jammu and Kashmir's Katra which too measured 4.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at around 3:50 am at a depth of 11 km. There was no report of any damage reported from anywhere.

The National Center for Seismology stated in a tweet, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred on 18-06-2023, 03:50:29 IST, Lat: 32.96 & Long: 75.79, Depth: 11 Km,Location: 80km E of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India".
