Don't Make Farmers Protest Another Shaheen Bagh: Govt Tells Opposition In Parliament
BJP MP Bhubaneswar Kalita while moving the Motion of Thanks to President Ram Nath Kovind’s address in the Rajya Sabha said Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal have been holding discussions with the farmers.
Facing backlash amid the ongoing protests against the three farm laws, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday urged the opposition not to make the farmers’ protest another Shaheen Bagh.
Asserting that many rounds of discussions have already taken place, Kalita said the door is always open for the farmers for discussion so that this issue can be resolved amicably.
“The government is ready to discuss all issues concerning it, but my appeal to our friends, please do not make it another Shaheen Bagh,” he added.
It may be recalled here that Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh was the epicentre of the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

"Now they have objections and they want to organise another Shaheen Bagh. The anti-CAA parties in Assam are forming new parties and let me remind you what Congress got in 2019 Lok Sabha elections by supporting CAA, the anti-CAA parties will lose in 2021 elections in Assam," Kalita said during his address in the Upper House.
The BJP leader further said some people were creating confusion that farmers will not get the MSP (Minimum Support Price) whereas it has risen sharply during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime.
“The children of farmers will become job providers after these laws and would not be required to work for petty sums,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi was present in the Upper House when the debate began.
The members of the Opposition moved as many as 118 amendments to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.
Deependra Singh Hooda and Tiruchi Siva were among the opposition members who moved amendments.
