Demonetisation did not reduce black money used in elections: Former CEC OP Rawat
He further said that various political parties don’t have dearth of money, which can be proved in considering the way money is being misused.
New Delhi: Former Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat on Monday claimed that the number of cases of misuse of money during elections has increased. The information has been provided on the basis of the data of the latest seizures. Speaking on the same, OP Rawat said “After demonestisation it was thought that misuse of money during election will be brought down. But it couldn't be proved on basis of the data of the seizures.Compared to previous elections; there were more seizures in the same states.”
He further said that various political parties don’t have dearth of money, which can be proved in considering the way money is being misused.
“It seems political class and their financiers have no dearth of money. Money used in this manner, is generally black money. As far as black money used in election is concerned, there was no check on it”.
The statement has come at the time when 5 states namely Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram are boll bound and the results of the same are set to be out on December 11.Former Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat: After demonestisation it was thought that misuse of money during election will be brought down.
