Delhi Polls: Arvind Kejriwal Wins New Delhi Constituency By Over 21,000 Vote Margin

Kejriwal garnered 46,526 votes polling 61 percent of votes, while Yadav managed to secure 24,876 votes, according to the Election Commission website.

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal won the New Delhi constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections by a thumping margin of 21,697 votes against his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party (AAP) rival Sunil Kumar Yadav. Kejriwal garnered 46,526 votes polling 61 percent of votes, while Yadav managed to secure 24,876 votes, according to the Election Commission website. Congress candidate Romesh Sabharwal was a distant third with OVER 3ooo votes. The Aam Aadmi Party secured a landslide win the Delhi polls, winning in 62 out of the 70 assembly seats. The party is all set to serve the people of Delhi for a third term. New Delhi is one of the only two stronghold seats in Delhi in which have been won by the same party (AAP) in the previous two Assembly elections which a margin of victory greater than 20 percent of the total votes polled. In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal of AAP won the New Delhi constituency by defeating BJP's Nupur Sharma by a margin of 31,583 votes which was 35.4 percent of the total votes polled in the constituency. AAP had a vote share of 64.14 percent in 2015 in the seat. In 2013, AAP candidate Arvind Kejriwal won in this seat defeating three time Congress Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit by a margin of 25,864 votes which was 31.24 percent of the total votes polled in the constituency. AAP had a vote share of 53.46 percent in 2013 in the seat. In the 2008 Assembly elections, Sheila Dikshit of INC won in this seat defeating Vijay Jolly of BJP by a margin of 13,982 votes which was 18.35 percent of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 52.2 percent in 2008 in the seat. There are 1,37,924 voters in New Delhi constituency as per the last count taken by the government. Out of these voters, 55 per cent are Men while 45 per cent are women. New Delhi assembly constituency is part of the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. It is assembly constituency number 40. Voting for the seat took place on February 8. Voter turnout was 52.15 per cent (Election Commission of India figures).
