Wrestlers' Sexual Harassment: Delhi Court To Decide On POCSO Case Closure Against Brij Bhushan On March 2

The court will pronounce on March 2 its order on whether to accept a police report seeking cancellation of a sexual harassment complaint filed by a minor wrestler against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

A Delhi court is likely to pronounce on March 2 its order on whether to accept a police report seeking cancellation of a complaint filed by a minor wrestler against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh accusing him of sexual harassment, as reported by news agency PTI

Additional Sessions Judge Chhavi Kapoor, who was scheduled to pass the order on Thursday, said some clarifications were required.

In November 2023, the court had deferred the pronouncement of the order on whether to accept Delhi Police’s cancellation report for a sexual harassment case lodged by a minor wrestler against Brij Bhushan. The Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) of Patiala House Courts adjourned the matter by saying the order was not ready.

On June 15, the Delhi Police filed a cancellation report and was not opposed by the complainant in the last hearing. The father of the minor wrestler had claimed that he filed a “false” complaint of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan.

On August 1, the purported victim and her father said that they had no objection to the police investigation and had expressed their satisfaction with the police’s report in the case.

The FIR against Bhushan on the accusations by the minor was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) concerning the act of outraging modesty.

The 550-page report filed by the police before the Patiala House Courts had said that no corroborative evidence was found in the allegations against Bhushan in the POCSO case.

The father of the victim alleged that his actions against Bhushan were driven by anger and frustration over the former WFI chief’s "biased treatment" towards his daughter.
