Delhi-Meerut Expressway Opens For Public: PM Narendra Modi May Formally Inaugurate Project

There has, however, been no official date released yet by the government or the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for the inauguration of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi may formally inaugurate the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, which opened to the public earlier on Thursday in the wake of the problems faced by the commuters’ courtesy the jam due to the construction of the rapid rail project. There has, however, been no official date released yet by the government or the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for the inauguration of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Know About The Delhi-Meerut Expressway:

1. As promised by the government, this expressway will reduce the travel time between Meerut and Delhi to 45 minutes instead of over two hours taken earlier.

2. There are two toll plazas enroute, one is free now.

3. The first toll plaza is at Dasna on NH-24. This toll plaza, which is around 25 km from Akshardham, is under construction now. The commuters’ do not have to pay the charges at this toll plaza as of now as the rates have not yet been fixed. This is from where the new expressway starts in its elevated form. The second toll plaza is near Kashi village, around 30 kilometers from Dasna. The commuters have to pay Rs 75 for one side at this toll plaza.

4. The expressway witnessed good vehicular movement on the first day as around 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles took the route.

5. Developed at a cost of Rs 8,346 crore, the Delhi - Meerut Expressway project has been constructed in four phases:

  • Phase 1 (Delhi’s Nizamuddin To UP Gate)
  • Phase 2 (UP Gate to Dasna In Ghaziabad)
  • Phase 3 (21 Km Stretch From Dasna to Hapur Bypass)
  • Phase 4 (Dasna to Meerut)

6. If all four phases are included then the total distance is 85 kilometers but this distance will be around 61 kilometers for a passenger going directly from Delhi to Meerut.
