Delhi HC To Hear Mahua Moitra's Plea To Stop Media From Leaking 'Unverified Info' In FEMA Case

Delhi High Courts To hear Mahua Moitra's plea seeking directions to restrain 19 media houses from publishing and circulating any unverified or derogatory content about the ED investigation

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has filed a petition in the Delhi High Courts seeking directions to restrain 19 media houses from publishing and circulating any unverified, unconfirmed, false, or derogatory content in connection with the investigation pending against her under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA).

Moitra has further said in the petition that news reporting and publication against her should be inline with official press releases that may be issued by ED. She has also asked the court to restrain media from playing up any information related to the ongoing FEMA investigation.

Moitra has also prayed in her petition to stop the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from giving out any “confidential or unverified information” to the media in relation to the pending investigation. The former MP has alleged that the ED wants her to go through media-trial which will heave severe consequences to the ongoing investigation and her reputation.

Moitra has named prominent media houses and newspapers in her petition.

A bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad will hear the matter today.

On January 18, the Delhi High Court had junked Moitra's plea seeking to restrain the authorities from evicting her from the government bungalow on cancellation of her allotment following her expulsion, on medical grounds.

Moitra had said that she was a single woman and was also undergoing treatment at a hospital. She also offered to pay charges.

In December 2023, Moitra lost her Membership of Lok Sabha following an enquiry by the Ethics committee that found her guilty of taking cash for raising queries in the Parliament. Moitra allegedly accepted gifts and other favours from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for asking questions targeting his business rival Gautam Adani.
