Delhi Court To Decide On Cognisance Of Chargesheet Against Brij Bhushan Singh On July 7

Delhi court on Tuesday fixed July 7 as the date for consideration on taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the alleged sexual harassment case

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday fixed July 7 for consideration on taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed against chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, in the alleged sexual harassment case. According to PTI, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal, who was scheduled to pass the order on Saturday, noted the submission of the city police that its probe is still in progress and a supplementary charge sheet is likely to be filed.

"However, since FSL report and report on CDR (call detail record) is awaited it is likely to take time. Put up for consideration for July 7," the judge said.

Earlier on June 27, the court posted for July 1 the decision on whether to take cognisance of the charge sheet filed against BJP MP and outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers, as per a PTI report. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal said it was a lengthy chargesheet and adjourned the matter.

Fresh chargesheet filed. Let it be checked. Since it's a lengthy chargesheet, will keep it for consideration for a couple of days, the judge said, as quoted by PTI.

Wrestling Federation of India president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of sexually harassing women athletes. The Delhi Police on June 15 had filed a 1,500-page charge sheet in the case after intervention by Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

Earlier in the day, women wrestlers moved the court seeking a copy of the charge sheet filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The charge sheet has been filed under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354-D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

The charge sheet also named Vinod Tomar, the suspended assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), for offences under sections 109 (abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 354, 354-A and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Another FIR was also registered against Singh under the POCSO Act on the basis of allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by a minor wrestler. She was among the seven female grapplers who had accused Singh of sexual harassment.

The wrestling body will undergo the executive committee election on July 6 and will elect a new President. Singh will not be contesting the polls as he has already served the maximum tenure of 12 years.
