Delhi Court Drops Charges Against Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia And 9 AAP MLAs In Bureaucrat Assault Case
CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and 9 AAP MLAs were accused of assaulting Delhi's then chief secretary Anshu Prakash in 2018
New Delhi: A Delhi court has discharged Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and nine others in case of alleged manhandling of a senior Delhi government official in 2018.
Kejriwal and the other ten AAP MLAs were accused of assaulting Delhi's then chief secretary Anshu Prakash. The court, however, did not give any relief to two others — Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal — and said charges be framed against them.
After the court order, Manish Sisodia addressed the media and said, "It's a day of victory of justice and truth. All accusations made by Anshu Prakash were false and baseless. It was an attempt to defame Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders."
He added: “BJP wanted to derail AAP government and a fake FIR was registered against us. But truth has prevailed. Today is the day of Satyamev Jayate."
Sisodia also said BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise to the Delhi chief minister for "trying to taint his image by conspiring against him" in the Anshu Prakash assault case.
Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and nine MLAs were booked for criminal conspiracy by the police, while Prakash Jarwar and Amanatullah Khan were accused of attacking and intimidating a public servant.
The AAP had continued to reject the charges and accused the BJP of "pressurising" the Delhi Police to file "fake FIR against a CM".
The alleged assault took place on the intervening night of February 19 and 20, 2018, at Kejriwal’s residence, where Prakash had been called for a meeting. The former chief secretary had alleged he was assaulted by AAP MLAs.
