Day After Collapsing On Stage In Vadodra Rally, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani Tests Positive For Covid 19

Vijay Rupani fainted on stage while addressing a rally in Nizampura area of Vadodara for the upcoming civic polls in the state, following which he was flown to Ahmedabad and admitted in a hospital.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has tested positive for Covid 19, a day after he collapsed on stage while addressing a public gathering at Mehsananagar crossroads in the Nizampura area of Vadodara.

CM Vijay Rupani was visibly unwell as he appeared at a public gathering in the Nizampura area after addressing two other poll rallies in Tarsali and Karelibaug each.

Rupani began to lose his strength further as he delivered his speech. A bodyguard who was standing behind tried to hold him but the CM collapsed surrounded by BJP leaders who had rushed to help.

Vijay Rupani was given first aid on stage and then taken to the airport from where he will go to a hospital in Ahmedabad. BJP leaders assure that the Gujarat CM is fine now. The reasons given behind his ill health include exhaustion and a drop in blood pressure.

"Mr Rupani's health was not proper for the last two days, but instead of canceling his public meetings held in Jamnagar on Saturday and in Vadodara on Sunday, he preferred to go ahead," BJP leader Bharat Danger said as quoted by news agency PTI.

The public gathering was being conducted ahead of the civic body polls scheduled for February 21.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi enquired about Rupani's health over phone, a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office said. Modi told Rupani to get himself thoroughly checked and to take proper rest, it said.
