Dantewada journo murder: Naxals release statement, say 'had no intention of targeting media'
Two policemen and a cameraperson of Doordarshan were killed and two others were injured in a Maoist attack on Tuesday in poll-bound Chhattisgarhs Dantewada district.
New Delhi: Days after naxals killed a DD cameraman Achutyanand Sahu during an ambush in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada, they have released a statement claiming they ‘had no intention of targeting the media’ and that Sahu was ‘killed after being caught in the ambush’. The statement was released in the form of a handwritten letter.
Speaking on the statement released by naxals, Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallav said “Why was camera looted? Because it had recorded evidence of what happened in the first few minutes of targeted media ambush. Multiple bullet wounds and skull fractures on the martyred cameraman in no ways indicates it was by mistake”.

Two naxals were also believed to be killed in retaliatory action by the security forces after the ambush in a forest area near Nilawaya village.
The incident took place at around 11 am when a squad of local police was carrying out patrolling on motor cycles from Sameli camp towards Nilawaya on Tuesday morning, Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P said.
