Dalit victims brought to Ahmedabad after health deteriorates

Ahmedabad: The four Dalit youths thrashed by cow vigilantes near Gujarat's Una town on July 11 have been admitted to the Civil Hospital here after their health deteriorated. Hospital sources said besides physical injuries, the youths were under psychological trauma because of the severe flogging by the cow vigilantes, that has caused nationwide outrage. The victims, Ramesh Sarvaiya, Ashok Sarvaiya, Vashram Sarvaiya and Bechar Sarvaiya, had been admitted in Rajkot civil hospital after they were brutally beaten with iron rods and steel pipes in their village, Mota Samadhiyala, in Gir Somnath district. They were discharged on Tuesday and went to their village. On Wednesday, their health deteriorated and two of them reportedly even vomited blood. Government officials made arrangements to bring them to Ahmedabad for further treatment. As news of the youths being brought to Ahmedabad spread, many political leaders and their sympathizers crowded the hospital. To ensure proper rest to the victims, the administration has made tight security arrangements at the hospital's trauma centre. However, leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly and Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela, besides an AAP delegation headed by its state convener Kanu Kalasaria met the victims on Thursday.
