Dalai Lama Hail India As A Model For Religious Peace In The World

From his home in Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh, the Tibetan spiritual leader virtually joined the ceremony.

New Delhi: In his lecture during a two-day virtual event on 'Maha Satipatthana Sutta' for Theravada Sangha, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama hailed India as a role model of religious peace in the world.

Hundreds of Buddhist lamas from Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Thailand attended the event organised by the Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society on 'Unduvap Full Moon Poyaday.'

'Practise Of Non-Violence & Religious Harmony I Found To Be Excellent In India': Dalai Lama

"The Indian religious tradition teaches non-violence, not harming others. In India, the practice of non-violence - Ahimsa and Karuna have been practised for over 3,000 years. So, in India different religious traditions of the world such as Islam, Christianity, Jew and Judaism and so forth live together. India is an example, role model for religious harmony in the world. Since I came to exile in India as a refugee the practice of non-violence and religious harmony I found to be excellent in India," Dalai Lama was quoted by ANI in its report.

Incorporating Mahasatipatthana For Non-Religious People; A Concern Raised By Monks

Buddhist monks who attended the event virtually asked Dalai Lama various questions on Buddha's teachings. They also voiced concerns about incorporating or interpreting Mahasatipatthana for non-religious persons.

Most Ven Niyangoda Vijithasiri, the Anunayake Theory of Malwatte Chapter of Siyam Maha Nikaya, Ven Waskaduwe Mahindawansa, the Mahanayake Thero of Sri Amarapura Sambuddha Sasanodaya Sangha Sabha, and more than 600 Maha Sangha representing the three main Nikayas of Sri Lanka participated in the programme, according to one of Sri Lanka's leading TV channel, 'Hiru Tv'
