Covid Update: India Records 1,778 Fresh Cases In Last 24 Hrs With 62 Fatalities

The number of fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours is 62 which took the total deaths to 5,16,605 since the beginning of the pandemic.

New Delhi: India recorded 1,778 fresh covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This takes the total tally of the active cases to 23,087, which is 0.05 percent of the total cases now.

The number of fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours is 62 which took the total deaths to 5,16,605 since the beginning of the pandemic. The fatality rate currently stands at 1.20 percent.

Meanwhile, 2,542 recoveries were also recorded in the last 24 hours which takes the recovery rate to 98.75 percent.

The daily positivity rate currently stands at 0.26 percent. The weekly positivity rate stands at 0.36 percent.

Meanwhile, 181.89 crore vaccine shots have been administered so far. Vaccine shots administered in the last 24 hours were 30,53,897 as per the information provided by the ministry of health and family welfare.

The government has recently given emergency approval for Novovax to be used for children aged 12-18 years. 

Covovax becomes the fourth vaccine authorised for adolescents in India after Biological E's Corbevax, Zydus Cadila's ZyCoV-D, and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.

Earlier, the vaccines were being administered to only adults. Those vaccines were Covaxin and Covishield. Last year, the government had begun providing precautionary doses to people aged above 60 years and to those with comorbidities along with doctors’ advice.
