No Standing Travel, Only 50 Passengers Per Coach In Metro Despite Relaxations: DMRC

In an official statement issued on Sunday, DMRC clarified that entry to stations will continue to be regulated and standing travel inside the Metro still continues to remain prohibited.

New Delhi: A day after the Delhi Disaster Management Authority in an order said Delhi Metro will be allowed to operate with 100 per cent seating capacity from Monday July 26, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) clarified that even with these revised guidelines, a maximum 50 passengers per coach will be allowed as against 300 prior to COVID.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, DMRC clarified that entry to stations will continue to be regulated and standing travel inside the Metro still continues to remain prohibited.

DMRC informed that it is still running maximum trains performing over 5,100 trips with the highest frequency daily as was available during pre-COVID-19 times when over 60 lakh passenger journeys were performed daily.

Covid Guidelines in Delhi

Delhi saw an unprecedented increase in infection cases and deaths during the second wave of coronavirus in April and May. However, there has been improvement in the last few weeks, after which the government is reopening the city in a phased manner.

According to the new unlock guidelines issued by DDMA, Metro trains and buses are permitted to operate with 100 per cent capacity in Delhi from 5 am, July 26.

Restaurants have been permitted to run with 50 per cent of the seating capacity from 8 am to 10 pm. Similarly, bars are allowed upto 50 per cent of the seating capacity from 12 noon to 10 pm.

Auditoriums, assembly halls, cinema halls, theatres, and multiplexes will function with 50 per cent capacity. Funeral/ last rites gatherings shall be permitted with a ceiling of 100 persons. Marriage related gatherings shall be permitted with a ceiling of 100 persons.
