BREAKING | DCGI Gives Nod To Covaxin For Restricted EUA For Inoculation In Children Aged 6-12

Hyderabad based-pharmaceutical firm Bharat Biotech's Covaxin has been granted restricted emergency use authorisation (EUA) for inoculation in children belonging to the age group of six to 12.

New Delhi: Hyderabad based-pharmaceutical firm Bharat Biotech's Covid-19 vaccine 'Covaxin' has been granted restricted emergency use authorisation (EUA) for inoculation in children belonging to the age group of six to 12.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) gave restricted EUA to Covaxin for inoculation in children belonging to the above age group on Tuesday, April 26, ABP News reported.

Earlier this month, the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the DCGI had asked Bharat Biotech to provide additional data on Covaxin, for inoculation in children aged between two to 12 years.

This month, the SEC recommended granting EUA to Biological E's Covid-19 vaccine Corbevax for inoculation in children aged five to 11 with certain conditions, according to media reports.

The vaccination drive for children belonging to the age group of 15 to 18 years commenced on January 3, 2022. They are being administered with Covaxin.

On April 2, 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) suspended supply of Covaxin through United Nations (UN) procurement agencies.

The UN health agency made this move to allow Bharat Biotech to upgrade facilities and address deficiencies found in an inspection. In a statement, the WHO asked countries that have received the vaccine to take appropriate actions.
